Park District Awarded $425,000 OSLAD Grant

Fri March 3, 2023

On March 1, Governor JB Pritzker along with state and local leaders and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced nearly $60 million in state grants are being awarded for 118 local park projects throughout Illinois to help communities acquire land and develop recreational opportunities. Downers Grove Park District is pleased to announce that our community has been awarded $425,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant for the Constitution Park Renovation Project.

The Park District will provide a 50% match to complete this project in 2024, which will include a new, expanded playground with wheelchair-accessible play equipment, preschool-age features such as a playhouse and tricycle path, and a permanent picnic shelter to replace the temporary tent used by summer camps. New walking paths will create a loop trail and provide a connection for the sidewalk along Webster Street to the new playground. In addition, a new seating area overlooking the playground will feature bench swings for adults.
