Formerly known as Northeast Park, the Park District acquired Whitlock Park in the mid-1960s, then renamed the park in honor of Donald Whitlock, a former Park Commissioner. Mr. Whitlock served the community as a Park Commissioner for 21 years and was also active in a variety of other local organizations.
This large neighborhood park is located between Cumnor Road and Fairview Avenue and north of Shady Lane. The park currently contains two ball fields, batting cages, a multi-purpose playing field, playground, picnic shelter, restroom facilities, and approximately 0.8 miles of gravel pathways to accommodate jogging and walking. The park also contains a parking lot capable of accommodating approximately 90 vehicles, accessible from Fairview Avenue.
