Memorial Park

Located at

1602 Maple Ave.
Downers Grove, IL

Description

The 8-acre Memorial Park site is actually a part of the Maple Grove Forest Preserve, but the Park District has been leasing this property from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County since 1947. This makes Memorial Park one of the oldest in the Downers Grove Park System. The two baseball fields have been hosting games and practices since their creation, and have become one of the most recognizable baseball facilities in the area, as generations of local youth have visited and played on these fields.

This active neighborhood park is located immediately north of the intersection of Maple Avenue and Springside Avenue. The full-size, south baseball field is irrigated, with ballfield lighting and terraced concrete bleachers. Other amenities on this field include a press box with concession window and storage area. A gravel parking lot immediately west of the large ball field is capable of accommodating approximately 50 vehicles.Recently, ballfield lighting was installed on the northern, little league baseball field, and the play area was also renovated to comply with current ADA and CPSC standards. A paved path extends from the parking lot to the play area, past the batting cages and continues north to the little league field.
