The DG 5 Miler is a CARA Green Certified Race. Green initiatives for the race include using reusable totes instead of plastic bags for race bags, providing shoe recycling bins for old running shoes on race day; using fewer paper materials for race promotion - and using recycled paper and eco-friendly inks for the fliers we do produce, and using biodegradable race bibs.
Top male and female finishers receive plaques. Top three male and female finishers in each age group receive medals. Top male and female Downers Grove resident finishers receive plaques. The first 500 registrants will receive tech shirts.
Runners will be grouped by gender into one of the following age categories for each distance:

|30-34 years||55-59 years||80 years and up|
This is a running event. For the safety of our runners, baby strollers, bicycles, skateboards, roller blades and dogs are strictly prohibited in the race.
Lincoln Center is 1/2 block east of Main Street on Maple Avenue
Parking is available at the parking deck located in the middle of the block surrounded by Curtiss Street, Maple Avenue, Washington Street and Main Street. Check the Village of Downers Grove website at www.downers.us for additional parking. Parking is NOT available at Lincoln Center or the church lot at the corner of Maple Avenue and Washington Street.
Sale and/or transfer of race entries/bib numbers is strictly prohibited and will result in the disqualification and/or banning of any individuals involved from future events. All entry fees are non-refundable and cannot be deferred toward a future event.
Recycle your old running shoes!
We have teamed up with USAgain to host a drop box for old running shoes on race day. Bring your worn-out shoes to the Lincoln Center before the race starts. Instead of becoming trash, USAgain reuses and recycles shoes both here in the US and abroad. Non-reusable shoes are recycled for uses such as insulation, or are broken down to reclaim fiber.
The race starts and finishes at the intersection of Randall and Washington Streets. The 5-miler is a CARA competitive Runner's Choice Series race and features a rolling course through scenic Downers Grove . The 5-mile course is 1 loop. Splits are given at each mile. Water stations at 1 1/2 , 3 3/4 and at the finish line.
CARA Runners' Choice Circuit
The DG5Miler is part of CARA's 2016 competitive circuit of races, named the RUNNERS' CHOICE CIRCUIT. CARA members can compete on this Circuit for year-end Overall, Age Group, Clydesdale/Athena (weight) and Club awards.
This race is a CARA CERTIFIED RACE. It has agreed to adhere to and uphold CARA's Best Practices Guidelines. These Guidelines embody the highest standards for quality, safety and comfort for participants in a road race.

The Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding, motivating, supporting and celebrating the running community of Chicagoland. CARA connects runners to resources that enable them to run - farther, faster, better, for life.
Pre-registered runners who provide a volunteer prior to May 23 receive half-off registration (registration refunded following race day).
Volunteers are needed from 6:00-10:00 a.m. and will receive a t-shirt and light breakfast. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. If interested in volunteering, please submit the volunteer form below or click here to download a form.

The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic until approximately 9:00 a.m.:
Downers Grove Police will be directing traffic at the following intersections; Washington and 55th Streets, Washington and 59th Streets, Lyman Avenue and 55th Street, Main Street and 59th, Middaugh Avenue and 59th, and 59th and Grand Ave.
As a reminder, vehicular traffic will be limited on the entire course during the race.
