The Downers Grove Park District is pleased to offer The Link, a recreation-based before and after school program for Downers Grove students in grades K-6. The Link program will launch this fall and will be hosted in a newly remodeled wing of the historic Lincoln Center facility centrally located at 935 Maple Avenue. Registration is ongoing and can be completed in person at the Lincoln Center from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday or 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
Before and after school, The Link program will provide students fun and engaging enrichment activities including nature, fitness, arts and crafts, science and cultural arts. The weekly schedule will feature age-based activities in addition to daily homework time and a healthy snack.
Recreation Specialist Sara Cunningham said that The Link program will be unlike any other school-age childcare option in Downers Grove.
“The Downers Grove Park District will not only provide safe transportation between participating District 58 schools and the Lincoln Center, but also will connect participants to specific programs offered throughout the district at a discounted rate with early-bird registration. If a Link participant is enrolled in another program at the Lincoln Center or Recreation Center during The Link program time, our experienced staff will ensure a safe drop off.”
Parents can choose to enroll for mornings, afternoons or both for 3, 4 or 5 days per week. The program delivers an extended-day schedule starting at 6:30 a.m. and ending at
6:30 p.m. each day. Fees start as low as $95 per month per child and a 10% multiple child discount is offered. A $50 registration fee is required at the time of enrollment.
The Link program will follow the District 58 school calendar and will include coverage for half days and early dismissals. Additional coverage during school holidays, institute days, winter and spring break will be available and can be registered for as needed.
Lincoln Center Manager Matt Netrefa is eager for residents to take advantage of this unique, essential program for working families.
“Our goal is to offer the community an affordable, flexible before and after school option that incorporates fun, healthy lifestyle choices where kids can share experiences with friends in a safe, friendly and structured environment.”
Register early! While registration is open to all K-6 students of Downers Grove, the determination of which District 58 schools will be served by park district transportation will be based on demand and enrollment at each school by May 1, 2017.
