ICE SKATING

Weather Permitting

This winter Downers Grove Park District will maintain unsupervised ice skating at Prince Pond. Hours are 8:30 am to 10 pm daily from approximately mid-December through February. It takes several days of single-digit and low-teen temperatures for sufficient ice to form. Ice maintenance will occur after staff has completed snow plowing duties for the day.

Ice Skating Conditions

  • Please locate the flag pole at Prince Pond for current skating conditions before stepping on the ice. Staff monitors thickness and requires 8 inches of ice to open for skating.
  • Green flags: Indicate ice rink conditions are safe at cleared spots only.
  • Red flags: Indicate dangerous skating conditions; rink is closed.
  • If you witness an emergency, please dial 911 immediately.

SNOWSHOEING

Put on a pair of snowshoes and hit the winter trails with one of our pop-up “Snowshoeing Fun” programs at Lyman Woods! When there is at least 5 inches of snow on the trails, we’ll have both adult and children’s snowshoes available for you to enjoy on a self-guided hike on our trails. We’ll show you how the snowshoes work and give you a scavenger hunt, binoculars and other materials for you to use to spot wildlife and enjoy the wintry scenery. Supplies are limited so please sign-up early when it’s a snowy day. Public “Snowshoeing Fun” programs are open to participants 5 years and older, $10 per person. Children must be accompanied by a register adult. We will be offering two time slots: 9AM–12PM and 12:30–3:30PM. Check online registration or the RainoutLine to see when the pop-up snowshoe program is available. Private group snowshoeing programs are available as well and have more flexible hours. For questions please email us at lymanwoods@dgparks.org or call 630.963.9388.
