In 2008, with assistance from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant program, the Park District purchased two parcels totaling 4.8 acres along Walnut Avenue, just north of the protected Belmont Prairie Buffer. Park improvements completed on this property include re-grading the site for athletic fields, plus installation of an irrigation system, an outer loop pathway, a small pavilion, and a gravel parking area. In 2015 the Park District purchased an additional 14.8 acres immediately north of the original site. This property is currently undeveloped, but provides an opportunity to develop a new community park when combined with the 4.8-acre site.
Located along Walnut Avenue just north of the Belmont Prairie Buffer, this site contains a gravel parking lot that can be used by patrons wishing to visit the Prairie Buffer.Pathways located on the Walnut Avenue site connect to the mowed paths within the Buffer property, which also lead to pathways within Belmont Prairie.

Construction is complete on a Site Grading & Park Improvement project. This project included re-grading the 5-acre site to better accommodate soccer, football, or other multi-purpose fields, installing a new picnic shelter adjacent to the parking lot, and installing a gravel walking path around the perimeter of the site.
