This park is located in the center of downtown on the north side of Grove Street a short distance west of Main Street. The park contains a play area that is both ADA accessible and CPSC compliant. There is a large band shell that is used for movie presentations and evening concerts during the summer months and is extremely popular with district residents. The park also contains a passive area that is attractively landscaped with mature vegetation and seating areas.
History
The Downers Grove Lions Club acquired the Fishel Park property for use as a public park in 1944 and subsequently deeded the property to the Village before the Park District took ownership in 1972. The name Fishel Park is in honor of former Downers Grove Mayor, Newell Fishel. The previous band shell was never officially named by a Park Board.
