History
Since the 1960s, Doerhoefer Park has served the Downers Grove Park District as its flagship facility for outdoor field sports. The Downers Grove Park District’s board of commissioners dedicated the park in 1971 during the Park District’s 25th anniversary celebration and the park is named for Edward J. Doerhoefer, a former park commissioner and board president. Now, Downers Grove is proud to be the home of the first synthetic turf field at a park district in the western suburbs.

Construction Update
Project Summary
Project includes installation of new 57-car parking lot at south end of Doerhoefer Park.
Parking lot surface to be permeable pavers, which allow stormwater to pass through the surface and into the ground below the parking lot.
Permeable paver surface should reduce the volume of stormwater entering into the storm sewer system, and help filter oil and other pollutants from rainwater prior to entering the sewer system.
Project also includes new asphalt pathways linking the new parking lot to the baseball core area and east parking lot, as well as extending the pathway system at Doerhoefer Park to create a complete “loop” trail.
