Current display: Featuring Charles Laliberte´ of Elmhurst, IL
Charles is a member of an Elmhurst-based non-profit, Children UP, supporting the education of young people in Uganda. Charles travels to Uganda every January. During his first year there, he discovered tree bark cloth. Taken from the Natalansis tree, the bark is soaked and beaten into the desired thickness. It often splits, suggesting the need for stitches and patches. Charles fell in love with the cloth and uses it as his canvas. Most art created by Charles is painted with acrylic painted patterns, occasionally using gold leaf. All the proceeds from his art sales goes directly to Children UP.
