Capital Projects
The Park District has always been committed to providing quality parks and recreational facilities for its residents. During the budget process resident input is collected. A master plan is compiled and infrastructure data extracted to begin the process of recommending Capital Projects to enhance and improve the overall Park District experience. See below for a list of current Fiscal Year 2011-2012 Capital Projects.

Active Capital Projects
McCollum Park - Infrastructure Renovation
Replacement of aging park amenities, including sports field lighting, sports field irrigation, ballfield backstops, ballfield core area plaza, new core area restroom & concession building, playground seating plaza, enlarged replacement picnic pavilion, and parking lot expansion. Project completion is anticipated to be July 2012.
Park Planning
Funds in Park Planning are earmarked for work done by the Park District Landscape Architect and various consultants in the design and construction of District park improvements; including activities such as land surveying, civil engineering, grant writing, park design, permitting, and construction contract administration.
Computer System
Funds allocated for replacement of aging network servers, software licensing and software upgrades.
Vehicle & Equipment Replacement
Funds allocated for replacement of a 2004 Toro 580D Large Mower, and two 2003 Toro 328 Mowers.
Gilbert Park – Playground Replacement
Replace some of the existing play structures with new ADA accessibility-compliant play equipment. The existing curb will remain in place, and the mulch play surface will be replaced as needed.
Gilbert Park – Pavilion Floor Replacement
Remove cracked and separating existing concrete floor, replace stone base material as needed, and pour new concrete slab floor.
Memorial Park – Sports Field Lighting
Replace existing ballfield lighting on South baseball field with new energy-efficient sports lighting, and add similar sports lighting to North baseball field.
Hummer Park – Parking Lot Renovation
Grind and replace existing asphalt surface on north and south parking lots. Replace portions of the concrete curb & gutter as needed.
Concord Square Park – Basketball Court Renovation
Replace existing basketball court with new asphalt or concrete pavement and new court surfacing and line painting. Replace goal posts and benches as needed.
O’Brien Park – Basketball Court Renovation & Relocation
Remove existing basketball court and install new asphalt or concrete court in new location closer to the existing parking lot, including new goal posts and benches.
Patriots Park – Barth Pond Dredging (Funded by Village of Downers Grove)
Remove silt sedimentation from pond bottom and restore pond to its original depth. New limestone shoreline to remain undisturbed, and keep a shallow safety shelf adjacent to the shoreline.
IGA Improvements - Alternate Bid Items
The Village of Downers Grove is funding the Watershed Infrastructure Improvements at McCollum Park and Washington Park. The Park District has budgeted funds for miscellaneous alternate bid items. The Village of Downers Grove is currently in "punch list" status on McCollum Park and Washington Park IGA improvements. Please visit www.downers.us for construction status updates.
